Popcorn Ceiling Removal

Because of the ease of installation and the sound-absorbing properties, many homes built in 1950-1980 have textured ceilings known as Popcorn ceilings. Over the years, they have lost popularity, and many homeowners request these kinds of ceilings to be removed today.  Zion Drywall Services is well equipped to remove popcorn ceilings, whether painted or not, and finish the owner’s desired texture. We will remove the popcorn ceiling texture and clean up the space afterward of all the shavings that will result from clearing the previous ceiling texture. We will then apply the new desired texture that is desired by the client. 

Texture Matching

Zion Drywall Services is prepared to match any existing texture on walls or ceilings that are being patched and repaired, as well as any walls or ceilings that are new or being renovated.

Orange Peel

This includes applying joint compound through a drywall hopper and spray gun powered by a compressor and hose. The key to this texture is ensuring the joint compound has a specific consistency. Once the consistency is on point and at the desired thickness, we pour the mud into a hopper and spray the texture on the wall, resulting in the desired “orange peel” finished texture.

Knockdown

Like the orange peel texture application, knockdown texture is the same process of spraying orange peel texture on walls or ceilings. Once applied, we let it dry for a short period, then go over the entire area with a knockdown knife, leaving the walls textured with the desired knockdown texture.

Skip Trowel

This texture is popular in the Southwest states of the United States. California, Arizona, Nevada, and New Mexico.  This texture creates a slightly uneven finish to the surface of walls and ceilings, resulting in a sort of “art deco” feel and look to the texture of the walls when finished. It is applied by a precise technique where the finisher “skips” the trowel over the surface of the wall and ceiling very lightly, leaving the final product with something like minute heels and valleys as the finish. Smooth Texture

One of the most popular textures around, smooth texture is the process of treating joints and screws on walls or ceilings with the final product leaving everything with an evenly smooth surface throughout. While smooth is a pretty straightforward term, there are different levels to the smooth texture. The typical level for finish is when joints and screws are treated only, leaving the wall smooth while visibly been able to see bear drywall still. The premium level five smooth texture is specifically used when a wall receives direct sunlight throughout the day, illuminating the wall and exposing any imperfections in the texture. Level five smooth involves the treatment of joints and screws while finishing with a skim coat on the entire wall, leaving a premium smooth finish with no bear drywall being exposed. The smooth texture at level 5 results in a very clean, modern look when finished, and is especially detailed so as not to have any imperfections viewable at the end of the process when ready for paint, and through the paint thereafter.
